If the great Victoria Wood had been born before the age of television, she would have been a playwright or, more likely, a novelist. Or maybe both.

Classic sitcom Dinnerladies gets stage adaptation
Classic British sitcom Dinnerladies gets an all new stage adaptation commissioned by the estate of original creator and star Victoria Wood, the first time it has directly commissioned a piece of the comedy icon’s work. Inspired by episodes from the original series, comedy writers Beth and Emma Kilcoyne, the pair behind Roger And Val Have Just Got In starring Dawn French, take charge of the adaptation, with Olivier Award-winner Sean Foley (The Play What I Wrote) directing. British TV mainstay Les Dennis is set to appear in the role of Stan, with details of further cast to be announced.
Without doubt one of the classic television sitcoms of the late ‘90s and early ‘2000s, Victoria Wood’s Dinnerladies starred Wood as Brenda Furlong, a worker in the canteen of a factory in Manchester. Surrounded by a cast of characters covering the gamut of types you’d expect in there - chainsmoking canteen manager Tony, fellow dinnerladies Dolly, Twinkle, Jean and Anita, wise caretaker Stan and other loveable additions - the hit show won two British Comedy Awards and was nominated for a BAFTA. Taking direct inspiration from storylines in the beloved TV series, the stage adaptation is the perfect way to revisit the classic, whether you’re a newcomer or original fan.
