Singin' In The Rain

Singin' In The Rain at Milton Keynes Theatre

Why see Singin' In The Rain?

hittin' the road

Singin' in the Rain is hitting the road and traveling across the UK once more! Based on the classic Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) film, which starred Gene Kelly, Singin' In The Rain transferred to the West End's Palace Theatre back in 2012, where it racked up an amazing four Olivier Award nominations.

The production's original director, Jonathan Church, and its choreographer, Andrew Wright, are reunited in bringing this musical back to life on stage. Featuring the MGM classics, "Good Morning", "Make Em Laugh," and the iconic "Singin' In The Rain", as well as the breathtaking 'splashing puddles' dance sequence, this brand new run is sure to delight audiences once again.

What is Singin' In The Rain about?

Singin' in the Rain is a wonderful trip through the glamorous golden age of Hollywood. As the story begins, the movie business is transitioning to the new reality of the 'talkies', and finding out that some of their previously bankable stars don't have the most harmonious voices. The plot follows the blossoming romance between leading man Don and the jobbing actress who's hired to dub over his on-screen partner's lines.

Joyful and uplifting

I booked hoping to see the wonderful Adam Cooper (saw him in Swan Lake) and my daughter was keen to see Faye from Steps too. Neither were in the Glasgow cast last night, but in the end it didn’t matter (though we would still like to see them in the parts too) because the entire cast were stunning and performed as if they were loving it. It’s a huge ask to take on such iconic parts, especially Gene Kelly’s but it’s impossible to single anyone out. All were superb. And who knew Kevin from Strictly could sing too! This was a fresh joyful show with fantastic singing, acting and one exuberant dance sequence after another, whether it was an ensemble piece or the main characters. On one of the hottest nights of the year so far with the audience feeling the heat, it must have been tougher to perform such a physical show, but there was no sign of that from the cast. There have to be differences from the film we all love but the staging was clever and the costumes gorgeous. 5 stars to all. ... Read more
