Derren Brown - Showman Reviews

APPOLLO THEATRE FEBRUARY 25TH 2023
If the 1st half was as good as the second then it would have been 5*
Christopher Hope from Bristol,
WHAT WENT WRONG?
Saw Derren last night in Bristol. We love him. The first act was great. Then something seemed to go wrong in the second act. A long, inconclusive section of cold-reading amounted to nothing. It was beneath normal Derren standard: therefore, the audience was left thinking “aha, something mind-boggling will come of this”. But it didn’t. I wonder if something went wrong. The finale then felt random and oddly placed. Maybe, in taking more risks, the tricks sometimes don’t work. Hopefully it’ll work for the rest of the shows.

PRETTY POOR - DON'T UNDERSTAND THE HIGH-SCORING REVIEWS
Pretty poor overall. Felt very much like recycled parlour tricks from Derren Brown, nothing original. If you've seen him perform before either on stage or on TV before, then it's just more of the same. If you've never seen him perform before, then you might be wowed, but otherwise I'd steer clear of this as it's very disappointing.

MADE TO FEEL EXCLUDED FROM THE OUTSET DUE TO AGE
We were all looking forward to the show but regrettably felt excluded from the show from the outset as it would seem we were too old to take part whereas surely this is open to all age groups, with perhaps the exclusion of young children. It’s a shame as this happened on more than one occasion & had I known I wouldn’t part of All aspects of the show I don’t think I would have paid as much for my tickets as I did. It is with regret that I feel cheated but we weren’t the only ones who were disappointed by this exclusion. I don’t believe there was anything mentioning age exclusion to any part of the show when the tickets were booked? The seats we had in the stalls we excellent & the theatre itself quite small but just the size to give a feeling of audience participation……. If you met the Age criteria that is!! Once again I have say “it’s a shame but I feel cheated “

DERREN BROWN SHOWMAN
What a disappointment. Derren managed to muddle through his first act. To be fair, the fault primarily, but not wholly, lay with his selection of audience members. Derren stumbled, from one disaster to another. The second act was repeated over and over until he achieved his mind boggling result. This act culminated in an attempt to show the serial number, of a £10 banknote He failed. The third act was, enough. We left the theatre.

SOCIAL CLUB/HOLIDAY PARK PERFORMANCE
This is the first time I have felt underwhelmed after attending a show in London’s WestEnd. The standard of entertainment was poor, I’ve seen better shows at my local social club. Thankfully my tickets were free, otherwise I’d be demanding a refund.
